DEPARTMENT OF POSTS AND TELEGRAPHS FOREIGN POST AMENDMENT (No. 4) WARRANT, 1956.

Dated 18th June, 1956.

I, GERARD SWEETMAN, Minister for Finance, on the representation of the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs as testified by his official seal affixed hereto, and in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 2, 12 and 82 of the Post Office Act, 1908, hereby order as follows :—

1.—(1) This Warrant may be cited as the Foreign Post Amendment (No. 4) Warrant, 1956.

(2) This Warrant shall come into operation on the 2nd day of July, 1956.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Warrant.

3. This Warrant shall be construed as one with the Foreign Post Warrant, 1949 ( S.I. No. 267 of 1949 ).

4. This Warrant applies to printed packets of such classes and weight and size as the Minister may direct and in respect of which the Minister has made arrangements with the senders thereof to have such packets enclosed by the senders for transmission in mail bags provided by the Minister.

5.—(1) There shall be charged and paid on every mail bag containing printed packets to which this Warrant applies the following rate of postage :—

For every pound weight of the mail bag and its contents 9d.

(2) For the purpose of paragraph (1) of this Regulation the weight of the mail bag and its contents shall be calculated to the nearest pound.

(3) Where postage is charged and paid under this Regulation, postage shall not be charged on the individual packets contained in the mail bag.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Warrant, which comes into operation on the 2nd July, 1956, authorises the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs to make arrangements with senders of large quantities of printed matter for the posting of such matter in bulk in the foreign post service.

The postage chargeable is 9d. per pound calculated on the gross weight of the mail i.e., the weight of the mail bag and its contents.
