EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES (FOOD ADDITIVES) (PURITY CRITERIA VERIFICATION) REGULATIONS 1983.

The Minister for Health, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), hereby makes the following Regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Food Additives) (Purity Criteria Verification) Regulations 1983.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of May, 1983.

3. (1) In these Regulations—

"the Directive" means Commission Directive 81/712/EEC 1

(2) In these Regulations words and phrases shall have the same meaning as in the Directive;

4. The methods of analysis for verifying general purity criteria and specific purity criteria shall be those described in the Directive.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The Regulations implement EEC Directive 81/712/EEC, which lays down Community methods of analysis for verifying that certain additives (i.e. colouring matters, preservatives and antioxidants) used in foodstuffs satisfy criteria for purity. The Regulations come into effect on 1st May, 1983.
