EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES (TRADE IN BOVINE BREEDING ANIMALS, THEIR SEMEN, OVA AND EMBRYOS) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1994.

I JOE WALSH, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of the 1972), and for the purpose of giving effect to Council Directive No. 91/174/EEC of 25th March, 19911, hereby make the following Regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Tade in Bovine Breeding Animals, their Semen, Ova and Embros) (Amendment) Regulaions, 1994.

2. Regulatin 2 (1) of the European Communities (Trade in Bovine Breding Animals, their Semen, Ova and Emybros) Regulations, 1993 ( S.I. No 259 of 1993 ) is hereby amended by the substitution for the definition of "breeding animal" of the following definition:

'"breeding animal' means a bovine animal or a water buffalo used for breeding".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations give legal effect to the provision of Council Directive 91/174/EEC which amends Council Directive 77/504/EEEC. The effect of the Regulations is to broaden the scope of the European Communities (Trade in Bovine Breeding Animals, their Semen, Ova and Embryos) Regulations, 1993 ( S.I. No. 259 of 1993 ) to cover water buffalo.
