S.I. No. 415/2007 - Mussel Seed (Conservation) (No. 3) Regulations 2007

I, EAMON RYAN, Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 15 of the Sea-Fisheries and Maritime Jurisdiction Act 2006 (No. 8 of 2006) and the Marine (Delegation of Ministerial Functions) (No. 2) Order 2006 ( S.I. No. 167 of 2006 ), hereby make the following regulations—

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Mussel Seed (Conservation) (No. 3) Regulations 2007.

2. In these Regulations—

“mussels” means mytilus edulis;

“mussel seed” means mussels of any kind whether alive or dead and includes any part of a mussel and the shell, or any part of the shell, of a mussel seed and which are not intended for direct human consumption.

3. It is prohibited to engage in fishing for mussel seed in the following areas until further notice—

(A) Wicklow Head in the Irish Sea bounded by the following coordinates

(B) Wexford coast,

Cahore

and

006 11.400 W down to

52 14.500 N

and

006 13.400 and all the area westward from the line described to the shoreline.

The effect of these Regulations is to prohibit fishing for mussel seed in the areas of the Irish Sea off Wicklow Head and Cahore Point until further notice, for the purposes of mussel seed management and conservation.
