Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 25th February, 2014.

I, PHIL HOGAN, Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by subsection (6) (c) of section 1 of the Electoral Act 1997 (No. 25 of 1997), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Electoral Act 1997 (Commencement) Order 2014.

2. The 19th day of February 2014 is fixed as the day on which section 78 (c) of the Electoral Act 1997 (No. 25 of 1997) comes into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation).

This Order brings into operation section 78 (c) of the Electoral Act 1997 which amends rule 22(1) of the European Parliament Elections Act 1997 to provide that candidates at European Parliament elections may send one piece of election material free of charge for postage to each household rather than each person on the register of European electors for the constituency.
