S.I. No. 501/2024 - Patient Safety (Notifiable Incidents and Open Disclosure) Regulations 2024

I, STEPHEN DONNELLY, Minister for Health, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 79 (1) of the Patient Safety (Notifiable Incidents and Open Disclosure) Act 2023 (No. 10 of 2023), hereby make the following regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Patient Safety (Notifiable Incidents and Open Disclosure) Regulations 2024.

2. For the purposes of Schedule 1 of the Patient Safety (Notifiable Incidents and Open Disclosure) Act 2023 (No. 10 of 2023) and Notifiable Incident—

(a) 1.10 and 1.11 thereof—

(i) “prescribed birthweight” means a birthweight of not less than 2500 grammes; and

(ii) “prescribed gestational age” means a gestational age of at least 37 weeks, commencing on the first day of the 37^th week;

(b) 1.11 thereof, a “perinatal death” means a death which occurred within 7 days of birth.

These Regulations define “prescribed birthweight” and “prescribed gestational age” for the purposes of Notifiable Incident 1.10 and 1.11 in Schedule 1 of the Patient Safety (Notifiable Incidents and Open Disclosure) Act 2023 , only.
