ROAD TRAFFIC (PASSENGER ACCOMMODATION OF MECHANICALLY PROPELLED VEHICLES) REGULATIONS, 1962.  | ||
The Minister for Local Government in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 5 and 121 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) hereby makes the following Regulations:— 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Passenger Accommodation of Mechanically Propelled Vehicles) Regulations, 1962. 2.—(1) For the purposes of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 , the passenger accommodation of a mechanically propelled vehicle shall be the total seating passenger accommodation of the vehicle determined as follows :—  | ||
(a) Each separate seat on which a person could be seated, allowing a width of sixteen inches for such person, shall be reckoned as accommodating one passenger;  | ||
(b) Each continuous seat shall be reckoned as accommodating the number of persons who could be seated on such seat, allowing a width of sixteen inches for each person;  | ||
(c) The seat or space occupied by the driver of the vehicle shall not be reckoned.  | ||
(2) In these Regulations, " continuous seat " includes two or more separate seats which are divided by such means as to allow such seats to be used as one continuous seat.  | ||

These Regulations prescribe the method of calculating the passenger accommodation of mechanically propelled vehicles for the purposes of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 .  |
