S.I. No. 61/2026 - Defamation (Amendment) Act 2026 (Commencement) Order 2026

Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 27th February, 2026.

I, JIM O’CALLAGHAN, Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1 (2) of the Defamation (Amendment) Act 2026 (No. 2 of 2026), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Defamation (Amendment) Act 2026 (Commencement) Order 2026.

2. The 1st day of March 2026 is appointed as the day on which the following provisions of the Defamation (Amendment) Act 2026 (No. 2 of 2026) shall come into operation:

(a) Parts 1 to 6;

(b) Part 8, other than section 21 insofar as it inserts sections 34M and 34N in the Defamation Act 2009 (No. 31 of 2009);

(c) Part 9.
